Radiation happened in August. From the 3rd to the 30th, every Monday to Friday. The process rarely took more than 20 minutes - from signing in to walking out. If it did take longer, it was because I was really relaxed and they couldn't get me to hold whatever position they were hoping I'd keep. Twice, there were problems with the machine.
Although it's been a little over a week since my last boost (a concentrated dose of radiation directed at the surgical scar where the tumor was removed), the burn is still pinking. The skin is discoloured in an intriguing pattern that starts on my back and stretches under my arm to cover my breast. It's not attractive. It's not comfortable.
My priorities shift as this process evolves.
My sister, Emily, and Matt Hessey were married out at the farm mid-month. It was a lively and lovely celebration, in a magical place with delightful people! I love having a new brother and look forward to being called Auntie Erin.
